HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital breaks ground on new outpatient Health Center

(EFFINGHAM, IL) – HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital broke ground on Friday, September 8 on its new Health Center that will house outpatient services and physician offices in a convenient location for area residents.

The Health Center will provide patients with an ideal ambulatory (or outpatient) patient experience by moving outpatient services that are best delivered in an easily accessible setting off the main hospital campus.  When completed, the Health Center will be connected to the current Effingham Medical Center (EMC) located at 900 West Temple in Effingham to provide ease of access for physicians and patients.

Theresa Rutherford, HSHS St. Anthony’s President and CEO, shared, “This is truly an exciting time for St. Anthony’s.  The construction of this Health Center will allow us to relocate several hospital outpatient services that are located within blocks of each other, to one centralized location and provide residents easy access to a variety of outpatient services,” she said.  “As health care continues to evolve more into an outpatient delivery model, this construction is being done for the convenience of those we serve and our physician partners.”

This new center gives us a more patient-centered, practical approach in which to live our mission to reveal and embody Christ's healing love for all people through a health care ministry.”

  • Phase I: A new parking lot was created on the north side of current EMC, in addition to a new north entrance to the building. The front (south) lot is no longer available as it is needed for the construction site.
  • Phase II: Infrastructure and life safety improvements were made to the EMC. In addition, some aesthetic changes were made, including installing new flooring and new lighting, and painting the interior to make preparations to match the planned look of the new Health Center before its construction.
