Advanced 3D Mammography

One in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. Early detection is the best way to protect against breast cancer.

That’s why we are transforming breast cancer screening and detection with the latest technology in 3D Mammography and a focus on your comfort. Our goal is to make breast health as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Instead of reviewing the breast tissue in a single, flat image, this tool folds together a series of images to create a 3D view, allowing doctors to see the tiniest details and find cancer in its earliest stages.

Screening Mammography

The American Cancer Society guidelines recommend that women age 40 and older should have a screening mammogram every year. Screening mammography offers the best chance of finding breast cancer early. Finding breast cancer early means more treatment options and a better chance for a cure.

Advanced 3D Mammography, At HSHS St. Anthony’s.

This state-of-the-art technology provides the clearest possible images for early and accurate detection of breast cancers.

Advanced 3D mammography features the latest imaging technologies and offers the best opportunity for the early and accurate diagnosis of breast cancers. This revolutionary breakthrough, available locally at HSHS St. Anthony’s Women’s Wellness Center, is more effective and can be more comfortable than 2D mammography.

Transforming the Mammography Patient Experience:

SmartCurveIntroducing the SmartCurve™ Breast Stabilization System

The SmartCurve™ system is available on both the Hologic 3D and 2D mammography systems used by HSHS St Anthony’s Mammography Services.

Diagnostic Mammography:

Diagnostic mammograms are used to check specific breast changes found on physical exam or a screening mammogram. If you experience any of the following, please see your physician immediately:
  • Lump or swelling
  • Skin dimpling
  • Pain or tenderness in the breast
  • Unusual nipple discharge
  • Rash of the breast area that will not go away

A diagnostic mammogram requires a physician order.

The Mammography Procedure:

Two views of each breast are routine. Compression of the breast with a plastic plate is needed to get the best possible image. Compression may be uncomfortable, but it only lasts a few seconds and can be reduced at any time by patient request. To minimize the discomfort, a MammoPad® provides a soft cushion. A small amount of women will need further testing because of changes seen on their mammogram.

The additional testing can include:
  • Magnification views
  • Ultrasound
  • MRI

Scheduling your Mammogram

Your physician may request that you have a mammogram and make arrangements for your study.

If you are 40 years of age or older, you can contact the Women's Wellness Center or St. Anthony’s Diagnostic Scheduling directly and ask to be scheduled for a mammogram. You may only schedule yourself for a mammogram if you have no symptoms. If you are experiencing symptoms, please schedule an exam with your physician.
