Stat Heart Program

The Stat Heart Program, coordinated by Prairie Cardiovascular, is a cardiac program that identifies, treats, and transfers heart attack patients to a cardiac catheterization (cath) lab within 90 minutes of arriving in St. Anthony's Emergency department. A heart attack patient that meets certain criteria is flown by helicopter to Springfield to St. John's Hospital in order to receive an interventional cardiac cath by a cardiologist of Prairie Cardiovascular. The interventional cardiac cath restores heart blood flow as soon as possible with the use of techniques such as balloon angioplasty or stenting, thereby saving heart muscle.
