St. Anthony’s named on “100 Hospitals with Great Orthopedic Programs” by Becker’s Hospital Review
Jamie Ballinger (standing), Physical Therapy Assistant, helps Thomas Maine with his therapy following his hip replacement surgery. St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital has a physical therapy area located on the Orthopedic Care floor so that patients can receive convenient and timely treatments.
St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital was recently selected by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the "100 Hospitals With Great Orthopedic Programs." Becker's Hospital Review is a leading publication offering business and legal trends and guidance for hospital executives. Hospitals were included on this list based on exhibiting excellence in orthopedics, quality of service, outstanding local and national reputations, and high volume of orthopedic cases.
St. Anthony’s is proud to partner with the following area orthopedic surgeons who specialize in knee, hip, shoulder, spine, neck, and hand surgery:
Peter Bonutti, MD
Josue Gabriel, MD
Timothy Gray, MD
Frank Lee, MD
Lawrence Leventhal, MD
Todd Wente, MD
These fine surgeons offer the latest minimally-invasive surgical techniques to help patients get back on their feet quickly. St. Anthony’s skilled surgery professionals assist the surgeon and the patient to provide the greatest of care and safety for each patient’s surgery and recovery.
To help patients prepare for their joint replacement surgery, St. Anthony’s offers a Bone and Joint Education Program, which helps relieve patients’ anxiety, improves patient outcomes, and speeds their recovery. The program prepares patients for their joint replacement surgery by discussing what will happen for them and their families before, during, and after surgery. For example, the class participants are given an opportunity to touch and hold the type of implant that will be placed in their knee or hip, practice breathing into an incentive spirometer – a device that helps prevent patients from developing breathing difficulties – and see a continuous passive motion or CPM unit, an apparatus that knee replacement patients wear intermittently during their hospital stay to improve range of motion.
St. Anthony’s also has a dedicated orthopedic surgical floor, with private rooms to provide increased comfort for our patients recovering from their orthopedic surgery. All of the rooms have comfortable furnishings, their own handicapped accessible bathroom, and a flat screen television.
Julie Fenoglio, St. Anthony’s Chief Nursing Officer, shared, “Our nursing team is dedicated to providing quality and compassionate care to our patients. As part of a cohesive team, our orthopedic nurses consistently collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals to create a seamless experience for our patients to transition to home or to skilled care, if necessary, to continue their recovery.”
One important factor to a person’s recovery following joint replacement surgery is physical rehabilitation. A physical therapy area is located on the Orthopedic Care floor so that patients can receive convenient and timely treatments. St. Anthony’s compassionate and well-trained physical therapists help patients gain their mobility back soon after surgery and give them the tools to get back on their feet.
For those patients who need additional recovery time before going home, St. Anthony’s Skilled Care Unit provides comfortable home-like surroundings with highly trained and caring staff. On the hospital’s Skilled Care Unit, patients can continue their recovery and therapy as well as enjoy more social surroundings with other residents. Once patients return to their homes, if they need extra help adjusting to their new life, St. Anthony’s Home Care staff can provide skilled health care in the home to help patients achieve full recovery.
The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals that have demonstrated continual innovation in orthopedic treatments and services, and emphasize patient-centered care.
