Treatment of Heart Conditions

For those diagnosed with a heart condition or showing signs of cardiac distress, St. Anthony’s provides the following advanced treatment options:

Emergency Heart Care
If you develop signs of a heart attack or stroke, St. Anthony’s offers 24-hour-a-day heart care through our Emergency department.  St. Anthony’s has four experienced local physicians to serve the needs of the region.  Our physicians and staff are highly trained in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support.

Stat Heart Program
The Stat Heart Program, coordinated by Prairie Care Alliance, is a cardiac program that identifies, treats, and transfers heart attack patients to a cardiac catheterization (cath) lab within 90 minutes of arriving in St. Anthony’s Emergency department.  A heart attack patient that meets certain criteria is flown by helicopter to Prairie Heart Institute at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield in order to receive a cardiac cath by a cardiologist of Prairie Cardiovascular.  The cardiac cath restores heart blood flow as soon as possible, thereby saving heart muscle.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is offered to patients who have been diagnosed with cardiopulmonary problems.  Our specially-trained rehabilitation staff oversees a highly personalized exercise program created to increase the efficiency of the patient’s heart and lungs.

Pediatric Cardiologist Visits
Pediatric cardiology involves detecting and treating cardiac abnormalities in patients from infancy through young adulthood. St. Anthony’s has pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Ramzi Nicolas, on its Medical Staff who sees patients at St. Anthony’s once a month.
