2011 Annual Appeal

A message about the 2011 Annual Appeal

Dear Friend:

When the S.S. Maas reached the New York Harbor on November 3, 1875, the young Hospital Sisters of St. Francis had one thought on their minds and in their hearts; to follow the example of St. Francis of Assisi and bring the healing ministry of Jesus to those in need.

Now, 136 years later St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital pulses in Effingham while serving a 12+ county region as a vibrant result of that ministry. Today, as a regional medical center, the skill and compassion of our physicians, colleagues and volunteers touch lives everyday.

Thanks to the work of the men and women of St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital:

  • 80 women per year are diagnosed with early stages of breast cancer and become survivors.

  • Patients suffering from congestive heart failure have resources and a support system to live fully with this disease.

  • Patients coming from near and far for joint replacement surgery have access to a comprehensive Bone & Joint Preparation Program either in person or via DVD.

  • Roughly 800 babies and new moms get a healthier start to their new beginnings thanks to the Mother/Baby Home Care Program.

  • Hundreds of primary school students get an understanding of hospital care to eliminate future anxiety through the Children’s Health Fair while future health professionals are sprouted and supported through the Health Occupations Program and hospital-provided scholarships.

At the same time while our state economy has struggled, for the first time the hospital has exceeded $2 million in the provision of charity through its Christian Care Program to those with limited financial means so that quality health care services remain accessible. The hospital is taking deliberate measures to serve the area through these times and cares for more than 200,000 people each year touching “every person, every moment, every time.”

Thanks to the support of the Friends of St. Anthony, efforts like these succeed. Without the support of these types of programs, projects, and services, many lives could go untouched.

Without the Hospital Sisters’ journey to Effingham, this hospital ministry would not have begun.

Without the support of the community, physicians, colleagues, and volunteers, these lives would not be touched.

Without you, touching these lives will be ever more difficult to continue.

Will you support this continuing ministry? We look forward to your investment in St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital ministry. We thank you for your support of our wonderful community. Click here to download the 2011 Annual Appeal Pledge Form
