Classes & Events

Prenatal Education Information

The following classes are designed to be offered in a series to help you through each stage of pregnancy. In order to receive the full benefits of prenatal education, your attendance in each class is encouraged.

Classes are limited in size. In order to ensure class availability, participants should register for classes when they are approximately 20 weeks pregnant, and attend classes at approximately 30 weeks. You are encouraged to bring your labor coach (partner) to each class.

Classes are free.

Each class is approximately 2 hours.

Labor & Delivery 1

The first of a three-part series, this class offers information on the signs of labor, each stage of labor, birth positions, and what to expect in the labor room.

Labor & Delivery 2

This class provides information on pain control choices for labor and the immediate and extended postpartum period after labor.

Labor & Delivery 3

This class offers participants an opportunity to practice various breathing and relaxation techniques which will be useful during labor.

Cesarean Section

This class provides information on cesarean sections and discusses the postpartum period. Note: In order to be permitted into the C-Section room, some physicians require the support person attend this class.

Newborn Care

This class provides information on the normal appearance of the newborn, basic newborn care, and safety for the newborn.

Breastfeeding Basics

This class concentrates on the anatomy and physiology of the breast, maternal nutrition, breastfeeding techniques and postpartum experiences.

Pediatric CPR & Safety

During this class, participants are given a general overview of the anatomy of the circulatory system. Demonstrations and skills performance of CPR and the Heimlich maneuver are taught in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines. Information regarding general infant safety and childproofing the home are discussed.

New Brother/New Sister

This class is designed for children ages 3 to 10 years of age. Children are provided with information about what the newborn baby will look like, how to hold and diaper the new baby, and how to deal with feelings of jealousy.

Bedrest Program

For expectant mothers confined to bedrest by a physician’s order, educational materials are available. Call the Community Relations department at 217-347-1529 for more information.

Natural Family Planning
