Empty Plates by Dan Woods
June 2008

Dan Woods When the first three Hospital Sisters arrived in Effingham in 1875, they found a growing community with few healthcare resources. They found many empty plates. They found people in fragile health. They healed their wounds. They found empty hearts and fed them with the Holy Spirit. When they found hunger, they fed them from their own scarce resources.

Today we continue to reach and serve people with exceptional care. Success is by keeping three things in focus. First, care that is personal: By being concerned about the patient and their family, we let them know their story is important, and they become included and engaged in their healing process. They know they are loved. Second, shown by excellence in care: This is shown by our clinical care and our service. And third, being cost effective and efficient stewards: Everyone knows healthcare is expensive. They want to trust that it’s not wasteful or greed-driven.

So while the wealth and resources of our nation have grown, what also has grown is a clear need for our Ministry today. Our patients and families are grateful for how exceptional you are.

Let’s continue to fill their plates.

Daniel J. Woods, President & CEO
