St. Anthony's recognizes the importance of preparing for your Bone and Joint Surgery.
Many surgeons choose to have their patients attend St. Anthony's Bone and Joint program. The Bone and Joint Education Program is a class offered to patients undergoing total joint replacement surgery. This program is provided at St. Anthony’s prior to surgery and focuses on increasing awareness of the surgical process through preoperative education, enhancing patient safety and reducing anxiety and concerns.
During the Bone and Joint Education class, registered nurses discuss what happens before, during and after surgery. They provide various handouts and demonstrate the medical equipment that will be used after surgery. During the class, you will undergo pre-operative tests that have been ordered by your physician. These may include laboratory tests, an EKG and/or X-ray exams.
Your physician’s office will schedule you for the class once your surgery has been scheduled.
